Happy World Book Day

Surakarta – Every April 23 is celebrated as World Book Day, quoting from unesco.org, United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) states that it is an opportunity to commemorate the importance of reading, and to make children as readers , as well as promoting literature.

Books are a form of cultural expression that lives and is part of the chosen language. Each publication is made in a different language and is aimed at its readers. World Book Day is an annual celebration day to promote the role of reading, publishing, and copyright. In the UK, this day of celebration falls on the first Thursday of every March.

The connection between April 23 and the book was first established by a bookstore in Catalonia, Spain in 1923. The original idea came from Valencia writer Vicente Clavel Andrés as a way of honoring writer Miguel de Cervantes who died on that date.

In 1995, UNESCO decreed World Book Day to be celebrated on April 23, because that date is also the day of the death of William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, as well as the birth or death of several other famous authors.

Let’s read a book to see the vastness of the world.
