Community Service by Undergraduate Students in Applied Health Information Management at Indonusa Polytechnic of Surakarta

On Saturday (21/03/2020), Health Information Management (Medical Record) students carried out community service activities in the village of Titang RT 04 RW 07 Tegalgede, Karanganyar, by providing knowledge in the form of being aware of cleanliness against corona by diligently washing hands, and the students provides a 6-step guide on how to wash hands properly with soap. Not only that, students also distributed soap and knowledge brochures about corona to 35 heads of families (KK) in Titang village, Tegalgede, Karanganyar. Given the recommendations and prohibitions on gathering people, the students did the service by visiting door to door which was divided into 3 teams.

This activity was carried out because in December 2019 a deadly virus emerged from Wuhan, China. This virus is a new type of the corona virus group, WHO named it SARS CoV 19 and the name of the disease is Corona Virus Disease (COVID19). According to WHO data on March 2, 2020, the number of infected with 90,308 COVID-19 positive worldwide, and on March 2, 2020 it was officially announced by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Bp. Ir. Jokowi that there were 2 residents who tested positive for COVID 19 in the Depok area, West Java. In Surakarta, on February 11, it was announced that 2 residents died at the Moewardi Hospital due to the Corona virus and the Surakarta city government declared an Outbreak (Extraordinary Event). The signs of infection from this disease are almost the same as SARS and influenza, the patient experiences shortness of breath, high fever, dry cough, and acute diarrhea.

Therefore, Indonusa Polytechnic students try to help the community in breaking the chain of the spread of COVID 19 by providing guidance the importance of washing hands to the community of Titang village, Tegalgede, Karanganyar.

The head of RT of Titang village 04/07, Tegalgede, Karanganyar, gave a response that this activity was very beneficial for its residents because it could provide insight into the importance of washing hands and how dangerous COVID-19.

In addition to this activity being beneficial for residents, this activity is also beneficial for students because they can take part in direct activities with the community.
