Discussing Occupational Health and Safety (K3), Polytechnic Indonusa Surakarta Holds International Seminar with UniKL Mestech Malaysia

Indonusa Polytechnic of Surakarta, Central Java held an international seminar entitled “Strategy to Create a Healthy and Safety Working Environment to Increase Productivity” on Wednesday, 27 July 2022. This international seminar on Occupational Health and Safety (K3) is in collaboration with Universiti Kuala Lumpur – Institute of Medical Science Technology (UniKL MESTECH).

This international seminar took place as part of the Campus Visit agenda between APTISI Komisariat II Surakarta and Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Located in the Hall of Campus 2 Indonusa Polytechnic of Surakarta (Cemani, Sukoharjo), the seminar was held in a hybrid manner with live streaming on YouTube. This seminar presented 4 speakers, namely 1 speaker from UniKL MESTECH and 3 speakers from the Health Study Program of the Polytechnic Indonusa Surakarta.

Mr. Ilyas Syafiq Ridzuan as the speaker and Head of Section Industrial Linkages, UniKL conveyed the main points about safety in the world of work including workplace risk assessment, control hierarchy for hazards, and the impact of occupational health and safety. Meanwhile, speakers from Indonusa Polytechnic of Surakarta were represented by 3 representatives of health study programs.

Mrs. Emma Ismawati, S.ST., M.Kes as Chair of the TLM Study Program explained the importance of health and safety at work, how workers create health and safety in the work environment, and who is responsible for occupational health and safety, as well as the types of health and safety at work. Types of hazards or risks in the laboratory.

Furthermore, Mr. Wahyu Wijaya Widiyanto, M.Kom. as the Head of the Health Information Management Study Program delivered a material entitled Safety with Technology or security factors that need to be considered in the use of technology in the digital era where digitalization has penetrated into all sectors including the health sector. Therefore, it is necessary to implement the best digital services through integrated information system services and network infrastructure management.

Lastly, Mr. Adnan Nur Avif, M.Sc. as a lecturer in the Pharmacy Study Program, explained work safety in the pharmaceutical sector, especially through chemical labeling. He conveyed the importance of reading chemical packaging labels, understanding Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), being careful in using chemicals and protective equipment, and remembering emergency procedures.

In the future, this international seminar can open up sustainable international cooperation between UniKL MESTECH Malaysia and Indonusa Polytechnic of Surakarta in academic fields such as student/lecturer exchanges, curriculum development, and research.
