Solo – June 14 is designated as World Blood Donor Day by the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Health Organization (WHO) explained that the purpose of blood donor day is to increase public awareness around the world about the importance of sharing through donating blood. “A drop of your blood means my life” is one of the slogans to invite all citizens of the world to become blood donors.

Being a blood donor is not a trivial thing because it is very important for others in need. The availability of blood to save lives is highly dependent on public awareness and participation in donating blood.

Donating blood is very easy and has many benefits. Some of the benefits for donors are getting rid of excess iron, increasing red blood cells, lowering the risk of cancer, losing weight, and of course making our lives more meaningful, because they can help save the lives of others.

Requirements to become a blood donor

To be able to donate blood, a person fills out a registration form and in general must meet the following requirements:

  1. Physically and mentally healthy
  2. Prospective donors must be 17-65 years old
  3. Minimum weight 45 kg
  4. Hemoglobin level > 12.5 g% up to 17.0 g%
  5. Blood pressure (systolic) 100-170 mmHg and (diastolic) 70-100 mmHg
  6. Body temperature between 36.6-37.5 degrees Celsius
  7. No blood clotting disorders (hemophilia)
  8. Pulse between 50-100 beats/minute
  9. The donor period is at least 8 weeks or 2 months since the previous blood donation (maximum 6 times in 1 year)
